This past December, the artisans who work with our partner organization St. Mary's Mahila Shikshan Kendra in Ahmedabad, India celebrated the year's work with a special program in their honor. Traditional dances were performed, students from St. Mary's educational center acted out skits about the ten principles of fair trade, and more. A grand time was had by all!
And then came the most anticipated part of the day-- it was time to distribute the year-end bonuses. This year the gift was especially robust: each artisan received their own wheat-grinding machine to produce quality flour right at home! This will save the women money and time spent standing in the queue at the shop. Daily meal preparation will become much easier and less time-consuming.
Finding ways to improve artisans' quality of life is a top priority for those committed to fair trade principles. We are proud to partner with organizations like St. Mary's who have their artisans' best interest in mind!
